Currie
Johnny Joints
A common heim joint will give you 22 degrees of movement
that is unrestricted in any direction.
One of the Johnny Joints by Currie will give you 30 degrees. Inside the rod ends of the Johnny Joints is a
bushing that has been made from what is known as tough 88 urethane that is very
high density. This urethane is what
encases the inner ball. This material is
extremely durable and it also happens to be impervious to weather.
The ball itself is made from steel that has been heat
treated to give it additional strength.
The models that are 2 inches or 2 and a half inches feature a ball that
has been cross drilled to allow for thru-bolt lubrication. Lubrication for the 3 inch joint is completed
via a zerk fitting that is found on the outer shell. These shells are also made from steel that
has been heat treated.
The 3 inch joints feature retaining washers that have
been machined from chrome moly 4340 and these washers have a snap ring safety
integrated into them that will prevent the snap ring from slipping out.
Included with the 2 inch joints is a 7/16 inch thru-bolt
that is able to be greased. That said,
the 3 inch joints do not come with the ¾ inch bolt that they accept. You can also get the 2 inch joints with a ¾
inch threaded RH stud that is welded on to the joint.
Assembly/Disassembly
Tool for the 2 ½ inch Johnny Joint
This is a new tool made by Currie that has been designed
to ease the assembly and disassembly of the rod ends on the 2 ½ inch Johnny
Joints. You can use this tool in
conjunction with a bench vise or on the vehicle itself when you are rebuilding
or repairing your Johnny Joints. The
tool is made from steel components that have been heat treated and CNC
machined. There is a 13 ½ inch all
thread as well as thrust bearings that are premium. The tool itself is also able to be rebuilt
and the parts to rebuild the tool are sold by Currie.

Front End Housing Johnny Joint Conversion Kit
This is a new kit that allows for the installation of 2
inch Johnny Joints on your aftermarket or stock housings instead of the typical
control arm bushings that are mounted into the housings. The kit comes with the installation tool as
well as a Johnny Joint insert meant for the gear case ear. It also has an inch thick steel upright that
has been flame cut. While there is a bit
of cutting and welding involved, installation can be done quickly by a person
with the right tools, skills and knowledge.
