Currie Johnny Joint Control Arms

Johnny Joint Control Arms by Currie

Common heim joints are able to give you movement up to 22 degrees.  This will be unrestricted movement and can be multi-directional.  That being said, the Johnny Joints that are brought to you by the minds at Currie will give you a full 30 degrees of unrestricted, multi-directional movement.  In the inner part of the rod ends on these Johnny Joints you will find an 88 urethane bushing.  This bushing is tough due to the high amount of density it has.  This is also the type of urethane that the inner ball is encased in.  Urethane of this type is incredibly durable and is also impervious to weather.

The ball has been made from steel and then heat treated so that it will have a strength that is unparalleled.  There are different models of these Johnny Joints.  The 2 and the 2 ½ inch versions have a cross drilled ball that allow for lubrication through the bolt.  The 3 inch version is lubricated through the zerk fitting that is located on the outer shell.  The shells for the balls are also made from a heat treated type of steel.

Speaking of the 3 inch joints, these also come with washers made from chrome moly 4340 that has been machined.  These washers are equipped with a safety in the form of a snap ring that has been integrated into them so that the snap ring will not be able to slip out.  The 3 inch versions can accept a ¾ inch bolt but they do not come with one.

As far as the 2 inch joints go, they have a thru bolt that measures 7/16 of an inch and this bolt is able to be greased.  In addition, the joints that measure 2 inches can also be purchased with a ¾ inch RH stud that has been threaded and can be welded to the joint itself.

MJ/LJ/XJ/TJ Front End Housing Johnny Joint Conversion Kit

This Currie made kit is what will allow for the installation of the Johnny Joints that measure 2 inches on aftermarket or even stock housings as opposed to the typical bushings for the control arms that are usually mounted onto the housings.  This kits comes to you complete with the Johnny Joint installation tool – another Currie creation – as well as the insert for the Johnny Joint that is meant for use with the ear of the gear case.  There is also a steel upright that is a full inch in thickness and has been flame cut.  Installation does involve a bit of welding and cutting but for the person with the know-how, skills and tools, it is still an installation that can be simple.

Currie Johnny Joint Adjustable Front Trac Bar

If you have ever wondered which part of a Jeep moves the axles in a lateral direction, wonder no more – the trac bar is responsible for this movement.  The trac bar comes as part of an assembly that is able to be adjusted in order to make both your steering and your ride smoother.  This assembly contains bearings, a rod and the bushings.  Each one of these components can and will be worn with use and over time.  If your trac bar begins to fail, there are certain things that will give you warning signs.

Pulling to the Side

One of the signs that could indicate a worn trac bar is when your Jeep starts to pull to one side or the other.  This can be indicative of the trac bar, bearings or bushings beginning to wear faster on one side as opposed to wearing on both sides evenly.  If you don’t take care of this issue the other components of the suspension – such as the tires, the axle assembly or the brakes – can end up being damaged which will lead to more issues and a more costly fix.

Turning Difficulty

If you notice that your Jeep is harder to turn then this is also an indicator that the trac bar should be replaced.  This turning issue occurs when the front trac bar gets worn and causes issues with the steering column.

Steering Hesitation

Yet another sign of an aging and worn trac bar can be hesitation in the steering response.  Your Jeep will still be able to turn in either direction but for it to do so, you will need to turn the wheel much further than normal.  If you have ever heard the phrase “play in the steering wheel”, this is it.

If you begin to notice any of these things occurring then it is imperative that you get the trac bar checked out before you get stranded out on the trail somewhere with a broken one.

Johnny Joint Adjustable Front Trac Bar by Currie

This is meant for use on the Jeep MJ/XJ/LJ and TJ.  One of the rod ends is offset.  Because of this, the bar is able to be put farther forward which leaves more clearance between the differential and the trac bar itself.  The construction is chrome moly that is 1 ¼ inches thick and .120 wall.  The gusset leading from the bar to the Johnny Joint is welded.  Also, one end of the trac bar is adjustable and it is equipped with an insert sleeve made from steel as well as a bushing.  These will bolt directly in to the housing bracket that was installed by the factory.  The Johnny Joint Adjustable Front Trac Bar has been finished with a powder coat in black that makes it more resistant to corrosion.

Currie Reviews Antirock Front Sway Bar System

The Antirock sway bar that is brought to you by the minds at Currie will give you a performance that is balanced for both the rear and the front suspension even while you are driving in the most extreme conditions out on the trails or even while you are on the highway.  When you equip your Jeep with this particular sway bar, the traction that you normally have will be enhanced.  This is due to the fact that the sway bar works to distribute and then to balance the weight of your rig over each of the tires on your Jeep.  Curries Antirock sway bar has been made to be used as a direct replacement for the cheaper, flimsier sway bar that was originally installed when you bought your Jeep.

The Antirock sway bar that is made by Currie has been formed from 4130 SAE Steel that has been given a heat treatment so that the strength that it has will be unmatched.  If you have never heard of 4130 SAE steel, it is the same kind of steel that is most often seen in many of the most popular professional competitions for off road driving.  When you purchase the Currie designed Antirock sway bar, you will get it as part of a kit that is complete with each of the parts that will be necessary for you to install the bar safely and properly.  This kit comes with complete and highly detailed installation instructions along with all of the necessary hardware (this includes the bushings) for installation.  The installation of this bar is one that is quite simple.  All you need to do is put the sway bar into position through the cross member (in the front) and then just attach it to your factory installed mounting points that you will find right on the axle housing.

One of the great things about the Antirock sway bar that is brought to you by the minds at Currie is that when you decide to leave civilization behind for a while and take to the trails, you will not need to disconnect it.  When this component has been installed properly, you will notice that the Jeep will have a more pronounced body roll as opposed to what it had with the original sway bar.  Taking this into account, you should be advised that the street performance of your Jeep will be altered although the bar can still be used for street applications.

All of the Jeep parts and components that are made by Currie come to you with an item specific warranty.  Check the packaging materials for the warranty information and read it thoroughly so that you understand exactly what is covered and for how long.

Antirock Automatic Sway Bar Kit by Currie

The Antirock Sway Bar that Currie makes gives you a performance of your rear and front suspension that is balanced for even the most extreme off road driving conditions.  It allows you to have traction that is increased and this is delivered by the bar distributing and balancing the weight over all of your tires.  This antirock sway bar is meant to be a replacement for your stock sway bar.

This bar is constructed from heat treated SAE 4130 steel so that it has unmatched strength.  This is the same type of steel that you will find in use in professional off road competitions.  This bar comes as a kit that includes all of the components that you will need to safely and properly install the bar.  Contents include complete and highly detailed installation instructions, all of the necessary hardware and the bushings along with the bar itself.  It is also incredibly easy to install.  Simply position the bar through the cross member in the front and then attach is to your stock mounts that you will find on the housing for the axle.

One great thing about this bar is that you will not need to disconnect it when you hit the trails.

Once you have this bar installed you will notice that your Jeep will have more of a body roll to it than what you experienced with your OE bar.  While this bar can be used in street applications, you will not have the same performance as you would on the street with your OE bar.

Antirock Sway Bar Kit for the Rear LJ/TJ Bolt On

This is a kit that contains everything necessary to install the rear antirock sway bar on your Jeep LJ or TJ.  Everything in the kit is easy to install simply by bolting the components on.  The only thing that isn’t bolted on in this kit is the set of housing tabs.  These tabs are not bolt on but must actually be welded in order to attach them to the housing.  In this kit, you will find the 45” sway bar along with extremely detailed installation instructions, all of the necessary hardware to install the kit safely and properly, the housing tabs that need to be welded on, sway bar links that are adjustable and heim jointed, sway bar bushings, frame brackets that have been given a powder coat in semi-gloss black and are bolt on as well as the sway bar itself.  Proper installation of this kit does require a bit of minor welding on the housing tabs as well as a bit of trimming that must be completed at the inner rear wheel wells in order to allow for complete sway bar arm travel.

Currie Johnny Joint Upper Control Arms

The Currie Johnny joint upper control arms are meant for use on the Jeep Unlimited and TJ with a model year falling between 1997 and 2006.  These control arms are totally adjustable which means that you will be able to adjust the angle of the pinion once a lift kit has been installed.  These Johnny joint upper control arms have been made from tubing measuring 1 inch by .156 wall.  They do come to you complete with the Johnny joint on either end of the control arms.

These are great for anyone who wants a set of adjustable arms in case you are planning a lift in the future.

What is the purpose of having Johnny Joints in the Rear?

The control arms are in control of the rear and front axle movement while the trac bar is in control of the lateral movement of the axles.  Sway bars have the control of any upward sort of movement.  That said, how can the Johnny joint be beneficial?

When you are going over terrain that is rough, the suspension flexes even though the axles do not go straight up and straight back down.  It might be that one side is up while the other is still lower.  The control arms in your Jeep won’t be perpendicular when it comes to the mounts.  In order for the suspension to be able to flex, they will need to have a bit of give.  This is why your factory installed control are have been fashioned in the way that they have.  There is a channel located in the arms that has to have a bit of flex to it in order for it to be able to follow the suspension that was installed by the factory.

If you decide to add some beefy control arms to your rig and you do not give it some sort of way to move as it should then you could actually damage or even rip the control arm mounts off totally.  For this reason, most of the control arms found on the market today are sold either with a Johnny joint or some other type of flexible mount.

The Johnny joints on the Currie Johnny joint upper control arms are simply the best.  Johnny joints made by other manufacturers are known to squeak, rattle and even to come apart.

You will need to visualize what the suspension does in order to articulate as well as what it does when you hit the gas and even when you stand up on your brakes.  This will allow you to know why you need them.

Again, when it comes to dealing with Johnny joints, Currie is the only name you need to know.

Currie Johnny Joint Heavy Duty Adjustable Front Trac Bar

The trac bar in a Jeep is what moves your axles laterally.  This is an assembly that is adjustable to make your ride and your steering smoother.  The trac bar assembly consists of a rod, bushings and bearings.  Each of these components can wear with use.  There are certain things that will let you know if your trac bar starts to fail.
Pulling to the Side
One sign that your trac bar is beginning to wear if when your Jeep begins to pull on one side.  This is indicative of either the bearings, bushings or trac bar is wearing faster on one side.  If not taken care of, this can lead to suspension components, the axle assembly, the brakes, tire and other components being damaged.
Difficulty Turning
When your Jeep is difficult to turn, this is a good indicator that your trac bar needs to be replaced.  This happens when the trac bar that is located in the front of your Jeep is getting worn out and as a result is making problems with the steering column.
Hesitation in Steering
This is another sign of a worn and aging trac bar.  In this instance, the Jeep will turn in both directions but you will need to turn your steering wheel farther than normal to do it.  You may have heard the term “play” in your steering – this is what that is.
Shimmy in Your Tires
If our tires are starting to wobble, shudder or shimmy then you might have a worn out trac bar that needs to be replaced.  This particular symptom occurs when the bearings or bushings that are located in the assembly of the trac bar get worn out.  The bushings for the tie rod or for the trac bar just have too much play or space from your steering assembly.  While this might not be too noticeable at lower speeds, once you speed up the tires can start dancing to their own rhythm.
Currie Johnny Joint Heavy Duty Adjustable Front Trac Bar
This trac bar is new and improved.  It is meant for the Jeep MJ/LJ/XJ and TJ.  It features a rod end that is offset.  This puts the entire bar further forward and as a result it gives you more clearance between the trac bar and the differential.  It has a construction that is chrome moly and measures one and a quarter inch by .250 wall.  There is a gusset that goes from the Johnny Joint to the bar that is welded.  There is also an adjuster end that has a steel insert sleeve and a bushing.  These bolt into your factory installed housing bracket.  The entire thing has been given a powder coat in black.

Currie E-Z Tire Deflator

There is a tradition of airing your tires down at the start of a trail.  This tradition is nearly as old as the sport of off roading itself.  Why would you air your tires down though?  When you let the air out of your tires, the tires will be better able to grip the terrain and have a larger area of tread to grip it with.  This leads to enhancements in the quality of the ride as well as with traction.

The E-Z tire deflator that is made by Currie functions exactly the same as the one from ARB and in fact, the entire deflator is similar.  In order to use this deflator, you must thread it onto the valve stem completely.  This is to make sure that you can remove the core while not causing any sort of damage to it.

As with everything in life, this E-Z tire deflator by Currie has its pros and cons.  The pros include that it is a reasonably priced tool.  You can get one for around $40.  It is also fast and it features a gauge that has been integrated to it so that you can keep an eye on the pressure.  This deflator can run various pressures depending on the terrain and your needs and it is easy to move it from your Jeep to another vehicle.

The cons of the Currie E-Z tire deflator include that it can only deflate a single tire at once.  It also has some interference problems with bead lock rings and you have to make sure that the Jeep is not moving in order to use it.

All said, this E-Z tire deflator that is made by Currie does give you the ideal balance between ease of use, price and speed.

You will be able to quickly air down large tires to pressures that are very low while you still have the ability to keep your eye on the pressure constantly with the gauge.  It also comes with a storage pouch.

Features at a Glance

·         The E-Z tire deflator that is made by Currie is reasonably priced

·         The E-Z tire deflator made by Currie will allow you to air down your massive tires with a quickness

·         The Currie E-Z tire deflator features a pressure gauge that has been integrated into the tool.  This allows for you to keep a constant eye on the pressure of your tires as you are airing them down

·         The E-Z tire deflator that is made by Currie will allow for you to run with various pressures for the types of terrains you will be traversing

·         The E-Z tire deflator made by Currie can easily be moved from your Jeep to another vehicle
