A tie rod is a component in the steering mechanism of
your Jeep. It looks like a thin rod and
it is used for a tie while also being able to carry only tensile loads. The tie rod has both an outer end and an
inner end. If you take a look at the
spokes that you will find on the wheel of a bicycle, they are tie rods.
Tie rods send the force that comes from the center
steering link or from the rack gear all the way to the steering knuckle. The outer end of the tie rod is connected to
an adjusting sleeve. This allows for the
tie rod to have an adjustable length.
This adjustment is what is used to set the angle of the alignment of the
Jeep.
There are a variety of ways that tie rods can be
connected at the ends. That said, the
strength of whatever connection type you choose needs to at the very least be
equal to the strength of the tie rod itself.
The ends of the tie rods are able to be threaded and once they are
threaded you will be able to pass them through shackles or drilled holes. You can then retain them by screwing nuts on
them at the ends.
With the currectlync heavy duty tie rod system that is
made by Currie, you will have enough strength to go anywhere.
